Volume at the top, a narrow finish at the ankle
Most wide trousers keep their width to the floor. These do not. The leg is full through the hips and thighs, curves out into a barrel, and then narrows sharply toward the ankle. The result is a cropped pant that has room to move in and a hem that finishes cleanly above a shoe.
The length ends just above the ankle, so the shape of the hem is visible. It suits low shoes and thin socks, and it does not rely on a break at the shoe to look finished.
Pleats, tucks and the hem band
The shape is built from three details, all on the front and the hem:
- Deep vertical pleats start at the waistband and run down the front of each leg. They hold the fullness through the hips and thighs.
- Tucks sit above the cuff and take the fullness in as the leg narrows.
- A flat stitched band finishes the hem, so the gathered leg ends in a clean edge.
Two slanted pockets sit at the sides. A flat faux fly outline marks the center front and is decoration only. A small black label tag is set into the right outseam just below the pocket opening.
The cloth
The cloth is ice silk. In this pair it is thin, smooth and matte, and it falls in soft vertical folds instead of holding a stiff shape. That fall is what stops a pleated, full-legged pant from looking bulky. There is slight stretch, so the volume is cut into the pattern rather than borrowed from the yarn.
It is a summer weight. It is not insulated, and it is not the pant to choose for cold weather.
Which size to pick
There are seven sizes, from S (US) M (JP) to 4XL (US) 5XL (JP). We do not list full garment measurements for this pair. The most reliable method is to lay a pair you already own flat and compare the waist and hip, since the cut is full through the hips and thighs. The waistband is covered, with a drawstring closure and no belt.
Green, Black or Grey
The green is a muted sage, closer to grey-green than to a bright green, and it is the color shown in the photos. Black is the easiest to wear with everything else you own. Grey comes in a dark and a light shade.
Who it suits, and who it does not
It suits anyone who wants a wide, relaxed trouser that still finishes narrow, and who wants it in a thin cloth for warm weather. It is not for anyone who wants a slim straight leg all the way down, a structured pant, or something to wear in the cold.
