Why the leg is shaped this way
The Raku uses a balloon, or lantern, silhouette. The outer leg curves away from the body through the thigh and calf, then comes back in toward an ankle-length hem. Two details create the curve. Deep pleats at the front give the thigh its room, and short darts stitched upward from the front hem draw the leg inward at the bottom.
A straight wide leg gets its width from the hem. This one gets it from the middle of the leg, so the ankle stays defined and shoes stay visible. The cloth is a smooth, compact woven with a matte finish that holds the round shape instead of collapsing.
Fit and sizing
The cut is extremely loose and the cloth has no stretch, so the room is built into the pattern. Do not size up to get volume, because the volume is already there. The mid-rise sits at the waist, and the closure is a drawstring.
We do not have a measured size chart for this style yet, so we cannot give waist, rise or inseam in centimeters. The sizes run S (US) M (JP), M (US) L (JP), L (US) XL (JP), XL (US) 2XL (JP), 2XL (US) 3XL (JP), 3XL (US) 4XL (JP) and 4XL (US) 5XL (JP). If you are between two, the return window is 14 days, the return label is paid by the customer, and refunds go to the original payment method.
Pockets and the cargo name
The pockets we can show are side slant pockets set along the side seam. There are no patch pockets on the thigh. The style is listed as cargo and workwear, but the effect here is volume and structure, not utility pockets.
Pros and cons
- Pro: a strong shape from a plain, solid-colour garment with no print.
- Pro: no stretch means the silhouette stays consistent from the first wear.
- Pro: the flat hem and ankle length keep shoes visible.
- Pro: seven sizes, S (US) M (JP), M (US) L (JP), L (US) XL (JP), XL (US) 2XL (JP), 2XL (US) 3XL (JP), 3XL (US) 4XL (JP) and 4XL (US) 5XL (JP), and the style is listed as suitable for plus sizes.
- Con: very full legs take more room than a straight cut, on a train seat or under a coat.
- Con: no patch cargo pockets.
- Con: no stretch, so check the waist carefully.
Who it suits, and who it does not
It suits someone who wants wide-leg trousers with a defined shape and a clean ankle, and who wears sneakers or low shoes. It is not for anyone who wants a slim or straight leg, a stretch waist, or external cargo pockets.
How to wear it
Because the legs carry all the volume, keep the top simple. A sweatshirt or tee ending around the hip, with low-top sneakers, is how we styled it. The ankle-length cut sits above the shoe, so the shape of the leg stays clear.
