A pair made for hot weather
Sekino is a linen pant cut short and wide. The 90% linen fabric is the point: linen moves air, dries quickly and does not cling, which is why it is the summer fabric in Japan and almost everywhere else. It also creases. That is not a defect to iron out every morning; on a relaxed cut like this, a few lines are how linen is supposed to look.
How it fits
The hip is generous, 124cm at XS measured round, and only grows by a centimetre per size. That means the smaller sizes are very roomy and the larger ones are relatively closer, so go by the waist on the chart rather than by the hip. The drawstring takes care of the rest.
Length runs from 75cm (XS) to 81cm (3XL). On most people that lands at mid-calf: clearly cropped, well above the ankle. If you are tall, expect it to sit a little higher; if you are shorter, closer to the ankle.
Wearing a cropped wide leg
Show the ankle and keep the shoes low: sandals, slides or flat sneakers. A boxy t-shirt or an open short-sleeve shirt balances the volume of the leg. Avoid long, heavy tops, which make a cropped pant look unfinished.
Choosing a colour
Black and navy look the most deliberate in a city. Gray and beige are the lightest in feel and show the linen texture best. Red is a strong colour on a pant this wide: wear it with white or black and nothing else.
