Shokunin Stand Collar Work Jacket in Burgundy, full-length front view

Shokunin Stand Collar Work Jacket

Design

Shokunin means a craftsperson who has made one thing for a lifetime. This is a work jacket in that spirit: a low stand collar, a front zip doubled by five fabric frog knots, and a washed, garment-dyed cloth that already looks like it has been worn for years.

Care

neutral detergent, hand wash preferred, no bleach, dry in shade, wash darks separately

Description

A work jacket earns its place by being useful and by getting better with wear. This one starts already broken in: the cloth is washed and garment-dyed, so the colour softens along every seam and the surface is matte, with natural creasing rather than a stiff new finish.

The front does two things. A full-length zip with an antique brass pull closes it quickly, and five fabric frog knots run over the top, one on the low stand collar and four down the placket. Do them up for a clean, buttoned-up line, or leave them open and use the zip alone.

The body is loose and straight with a dropped shoulder and a horizontal yoke across the back. A welt pocket sits on the left chest and two slanted welt pockets at the hip take your hands. The cuffs close with a single button. It is medium thick with no stretch, so the room is in the cut.

A work jacket with a quiet front

Most work jackets are built around hardware: big buttons, snaps, chest flaps. The Shokunin keeps the front calm. A low stand collar replaces the lapel, and the closure is a full-length zip with five fabric frog knots laid over it, so the line from collar to hem stays clean.

Zip and frog knots

The zip has an antique brass pull and does the everyday work. The frog knots are loops of the same cloth passing over small knotted buttons, one on the collar and four down the front. They are the detail that makes it read as more than a chore coat, and you can wear them done or undone.

Washed to look worn

The cloth is washed and garment-dyed. That softens the colour along the seams, gives a matte surface with natural creasing and takes away the stiffness of new workwear. It is medium thick with no stretch.

Pockets, cuffs and fit

One welt pocket sits on the left chest and two slanted welt pockets at the hip. The cuffs close with a single button and the back has a horizontal yoke seam. The cut is loose and straight with a dropped shoulder, falling to the hip. Use the Fits (kg) column in the size chart to choose.

Colours and sizes

Burgundy is a washed brick red, Black is the easiest to style and Olive is the classic work colour. Sizes run S (US) M (JP) to 4XL (US) 5XL (JP).

Care and returns

Wash with a neutral detergent, by hand where you can, with no bleach. Dry in the shade and wash apart from light colours. You have 14 days to return it; the return label is paid by the customer and refunds go to the original payment method.

Answers

Questions, answered

What does Shokunin mean?

Shokunin is the Japanese word for a craftsperson devoted to one trade. The jacket takes its cue from work clothes: plain construction, useful pockets and a cloth that is washed to look lived-in from day one.

How does it close?

Two ways at once. A full-length zip with an antique brass pull does the work, and five fabric frog knots sit over it, one on the collar and four down the front. Wear it zipped and knotted, or open with the knots undone.

Which size should I order?

Start with the Fits (kg) column in the chart, which is the maker's own guide: 45-55kg at the smallest size up to 105-115kg at the largest. Then check the chest, which runs 108cm to 132cm measured flat. The cut is loose with a dropped shoulder and the cloth does not stretch, so do not size down.

What is the cloth like?

A dense woven work cloth, washed and garment-dyed so the colour fades softly along the seams and the surface is matte with natural creasing. It is medium thick with no stretch.

Which colour should I choose?

Burgundy is a washed brick red and the most distinctive. Black is the easiest to wear with everything. Olive is the classic work-jacket colour. All three have the same knots, zip and pockets.

How do I wash it?

Use a neutral detergent and hand wash where you can; a gentle machine wash also works. No chlorine bleach. Hang it to dry in the shade so the dark tones do not fade, and wash it apart from light colours.

What is the return policy?

You have 14 days to return it. The return label is paid by the customer and refunds go back to the original payment method.
