Where the volume sits
The Yutori is loose through the seat and thighs, and the seams then do the shaping. An arched seam crosses each knee and connects to a diagonal seam curving down toward the inner hem. A second seam runs from the outer thigh into the knee panel. The result is volume around the knee with a slight taper at the bottom, instead of a leg that simply hangs wide.
That is why the pants sit well with sneakers. The hem is full length and finishes at the top of the shoe with a slight break, so the taper does the work of keeping the shape tidy.
The cloth
The cloth is a cotton-linen plain weave with a visible heathered slub, a matte surface and a natural drape. It is regular thickness and has no stretch. It creases softly, which is part of how the cloth looks. The photographed khaki is a natural oatmeal tone.
Construction at a glance
- Mid-rise, slightly gathered pull-on waist
- Smooth front, with no fly, buttons or zip
- Two slanted side pockets at the hips, one patch pocket at the back
- Plain folded and topstitched hem, no cuffs or elastic
- Tonal topstitching, no visible hardware
What works and what does not
- **Works:** volume at the knee with a clean finish at the hem; a smooth front with nothing to fasten; three pockets; four colours and seven sizes.
- **Does not:** there is no stretch, the knee volume is visible rather than hidden, and the cloth will crease.
Who they suit
They suit anyone who wants a relaxed, roomy pant with a defined shape rather than a plain wide leg. They are not for a slim or straight line. For that, choose a straight-leg pair.
Wearing them
The knee seams already carry the detail, so keep the top simple: a plain tee or a shirt worn out. Because the hem finishes at the top of the shoe, low sneakers show the taper best.
Season
They are listed for spring and summer. The cloth is regular thickness and not insulated, so in cooler weather the layers go on top.
