Yutori Linen Harem Pants in Khaki, full-length front view

Design

Yutori means ease, room to spare. The pants are cut that way: loose through the seat and thighs, with a set of seams that builds volume around the knee before the leg narrows to the hem. The ease sits where you move, and the finish stays clean at the shoe.

Description

The Yutori is built around one set of seams. An arched line crosses the front of each knee. A curve runs from the outer thigh down into that panel, and another drops from the knee toward the inner hem. Together they push the volume to the knee and let the leg narrow below it, so the pants balloon where you move and finish clean at the shoe.

Everything else is kept plain. The waistband is slightly gathered and the pants pull on, with a smooth front and no fly, buttons or zip. Two slanted pockets sit at the hips and one patch pocket sits at the back. The hem is folded and topstitched straight, with no cuffs and no elastic. The topstitching is tonal, so the seams read as shape rather than decoration.

The cloth is a cotton-linen plain weave, matte, with a heathered slub you can see in the yarn. It is regular thickness with no stretch, so the looseness comes from the pattern rather than the fibre. It drapes and creases softly, the way linen does. In khaki the tone is a natural oatmeal.

Where the volume sits

The Yutori is loose through the seat and thighs, and the seams then do the shaping. An arched seam crosses each knee and connects to a diagonal seam curving down toward the inner hem. A second seam runs from the outer thigh into the knee panel. The result is volume around the knee with a slight taper at the bottom, instead of a leg that simply hangs wide.

That is why the pants sit well with sneakers. The hem is full length and finishes at the top of the shoe with a slight break, so the taper does the work of keeping the shape tidy.

The cloth

The cloth is a cotton-linen plain weave with a visible heathered slub, a matte surface and a natural drape. It is regular thickness and has no stretch. It creases softly, which is part of how the cloth looks. The photographed khaki is a natural oatmeal tone.

Construction at a glance

  • Mid-rise, slightly gathered pull-on waist
  • Smooth front, with no fly, buttons or zip
  • Two slanted side pockets at the hips, one patch pocket at the back
  • Plain folded and topstitched hem, no cuffs or elastic
  • Tonal topstitching, no visible hardware

What works and what does not

  • **Works:** volume at the knee with a clean finish at the hem; a smooth front with nothing to fasten; three pockets; four colours and seven sizes.
  • **Does not:** there is no stretch, the knee volume is visible rather than hidden, and the cloth will crease.

Who they suit

They suit anyone who wants a relaxed, roomy pant with a defined shape rather than a plain wide leg. They are not for a slim or straight line. For that, choose a straight-leg pair.

Wearing them

The knee seams already carry the detail, so keep the top simple: a plain tee or a shirt worn out. Because the hem finishes at the top of the shoe, low sneakers show the taper best.

Season

They are listed for spring and summer. The cloth is regular thickness and not insulated, so in cooler weather the layers go on top.

Answers

Questions, answered

What are harem pants?

Harem pants are cut loose through the seat and thighs and narrower at the hem. The Yutori follows that shape with a balloon cut: roomy at the hip and thigh, with seams that add volume around the knee, then a slight taper toward the hem opening. That taper stops the volume from dragging at the shoe.

Which size should I order?

Sizes run S (US) M (JP) to 4XL (US) 5XL (JP), seven in all. The cut is loose through the seat and thighs, the rise is mid and the cloth has no stretch, so choose by how much room you want rather than expecting it to give. We have not published waist, hip or length measurements for this pair yet.

What is the fabric like?

A cotton-linen plain weave with a heathered slub visible in the yarn. The surface is matte, it drapes naturally and it creases softly, which is how linen looks rather than a flaw. Thickness is regular and there is no stretch.

How long are they, and where do they sit?

Full length, finishing at the top of a sneaker with a slight break. The rise is mid. We do not list an inseam for this pair yet.

Do they have a fly or buttons?

No. The front is smooth, with no fly, buttons or zip, and the waistband is slightly gathered so the pants pull on. There are two slanted pockets at the hips and one patch pocket at the back.

Which colour should I choose?

Khaki is the one shown in our photos: a natural oatmeal tone with a heathered, slubbed texture that keeps it from looking flat. Brown, black and blue are also available.

Who are they not for?

Anyone who wants a straight or slim line. The volume around the knee is the point of the design, and it shows. If you want a clean column from hip to hem, a straight-leg pair will do that better.

Are they suitable for summer?

They are listed for spring and summer. The cloth is regular thickness and not insulated, and the cut is loose.

Can I return them?

Yes, within 14 days. The return label is paid by the customer, and refunds go back to the original payment method.
